Yale Russian Chorus: Kas tie tādi (Who are They), traditional Latvian song, arranged by Denis Mickiewicz. A beloved Latvian folk song that Denis Mickiewicz, our original conductor and a Russian raised in Riga, learned as a child growing up there. He made this arrangement for the Chorus’s trip to Latvia in 1959. During the 20th Century many Latvians, including orphans, were forced to flee their homeland. This song evokes that experience.
