Jaydee Amrita is a student of Tribal Fusion, Bharatanatyam, ATS and Odissi. She has been dancing for approximately 3 years.
This years piece is a theatrical approach inspired by the Ancient Egyptian cult of the gods wives of Amun - an elite order of women based in Thebes who rivalled the power of Pharaoh and were even depicted as equal to the gods on wall reliefs and were granted a funerary temple within the temple of Karnak. There was one principle official gods wife at a time, who would eventually adopt and train a daughter to take her place. Their ritual role was to ritually stimulate the god with dance and music, maintaining Maat and assisting Pharaoh in his ritual duties. One even used her position to rise to Pharaoh, Queen Hatshepsut.
Jaydee drew a parallel between this tradition and the Devadasi system of India in its uncorrupted form.
Her headdress is made by Organic Armor. Music mixed by Phil Meadley, UK. Two short combinations she uses are inspired by Samantha Emanuel combinations.
