Ari Kagan won the Republican primary in New York City with a landslide 75 percent of voters voted for the former Democrat who deliberately switched to the Republican Party. The Russian-speaking immigrant from the Soviet Union - who was born in Belarus and graduated from a college in Ukraine - is the only New York City Councilman who does not own a car and uses public transportation - subways and buses - every day.
