I’ve been traveling the world almost nonstop for the last 3 years, and while I was doing that, the world began to come to my hometown. In a crisis unlike any the city had seen before, New York began to receive hundreds of thousands of migrants who had crossed the US border illegally from Mexico. The US media machine ran stories nonstop on the topic, trying to drum up anger between my fellow citizens (as always). People told me I should come back and see what was going on. Most of the migrants came from places I was now very familiar with: Latin America, Africa, and China. Maybe I could offer a unique perspective by looking for the migrants and seeing what they had to say. Or at the very least, it’d be more useful than what you’d find on Fox News and CNN. Join me on a trip to Randall’s Island to find the city’s largest migrant camp, and also the neighborhoods the migrants would move to afterward.
