“Hitler chooses Traudl“ no subtitles Downfall Parody template

Posted by tolhurst: exploitable footage to help create Fair Use Downfall Parodies. The original file, shared by Hitlerrantsparodies, carries the title “Hitler is with the candidates for secretary and selects Junge“ though, as she and Hitler clearly say, she is then (1943) Fräulein Humps rather than Frau Junge, I was looking for it on YouTube and didn’t find it. This scene is at the very beginning of “Downfall“ after we have seen that we are at the Wolf’s Lair HQ, Rastenburg, East Prussia, in 1943. Five women hopeful of becoming secretary to Hitler have arrived by train and picked their way through security and walked wonkily over railway lines and snow. As this clip begins, the five women are ushered into an ante-room to Hitler’s study in preparation to meet the Führer and Hitler’s valet Heinz Linge tells them who they should behave - the formal greeting and salute they would normally make not being an issue. Apparently, Hitler has just been out with his dog Blondi and Linge enters the study to tell Hitler that the ladies from Berlin have arrived. The entrance of Bruno Ganz as Hitler is a moment of suspense - we share the secretaries’ interest in seeing what this landmark Germanic (Swiss actor) Hitler looks like. Hitler apologises it is so late (we see it is ). He speaks to each of the women in turn asking their name and where they come from. Traudl (then: Fräulein Humps) is last and she is from Munich, and Hitler asks her to come in. Hitler introduces Blondi. The speech he dictates to Traudl is a genuine speech delivered in 1943. Traudl makes a total mess of the dictation, Hitler notices and comes over to the typewriter, and says using a kindly manner (it is a fact that Real Hitler acted like this) “Let’s just start that again“. We then see Traudl come out of the study and tell the others that she has got the job. This is the only “prequel“ scene that takes place outside Berlin - the next scene is when Traudl, Gerda and Constanze are in the Führerbunker in 1945.
