Russia has challenged Ukraine’s claim that it downed Putin’s ‘invincible’ Kinzhal hypersonic missile with the Patriot air defence system. On May 4, Kyiv said that they had shot down the Russian hypersonic missile over Kyiv and released a video showing its debris. In the video, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, could be seen flaunting the wreckage of the missile. Earlier, Ukraine’s Air Force commander Mykola Oleschuk hailed the alleged downing of the missile as a “historic event”. The Pentagon also backed Kyiv’s claim about the alleged downing of the Kinzhal using the Patriot air defence system. Russian military experts alleged that the debris displayed by Ukraine was not that of a Kinzhal hypersonic missile. Several military observers have also said that the debris presented by Kyiv doesn’t look like a Kinzhal missile.
