Greek cities are drowning in flash floods! Further south, on Santorini, several cars were swept away by flooding caused by heavy rain. Santorini Mayor Antonis Sigalas said the power outages were due to lightning damage. In a conversation, he said that “from 02:30 at night it began to rain heavily and there was a lot of lightning. Traffic problems arose because the downpour brought heavy materials, but the municipal brigades immediately cleared the roads and now there are no problems. And the ships sail normally in the port.” He added that power has been restored in most areas of the island. Brief but intense periods of thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday also flooded main streets in and around Athens and Thessaloniki, and trees were uprooted in northern Greece. Meteorologists warn that more precipitation is forecast, mainly in the central and northern parts of the country and especially in Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the northern Aegean and possibly the Sporades.
