Rafah residents celebrate Hamas ceasefire announcement

Hamas has announced that it accepted the terms of a ceasefire deal in Gaza as Israel prepared an offensive against the militant group’s remaining stronghold in Rafah. Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s political leader, called Qatar’s prime minister and Egypt’s intelligence chief to inform mediators that the group accepted the ceasefire terms, Hamas said in a statement.
