Raymond Newell (1934)

Titles read: ’Now Pathe Pictorial has pleasure in presenting - RAYMOND NEWELL - the famous Baritone and Radio and Musical Comedy Star in “The Pavement Artist“.’ Pathe Studio, London. On a set dressed to look like a city street with a wall and railing and bushes behind, we see character baritone singer Raymond Newell sitting on the ground beside a drawing on the pavement. He is dressed in rather ragged clothes and sings sombrely of being an artist, sketching all alone on a stone. He mentions being of the vagabond school of men who paid for playing the fool. A couple walk by, stop and look at his pictures and drop a coin into his hat. Then Raymond sings of being weary, of the rain washing away his work and of being “an artist of the paving stone“.
