GYOEZOE VERES (Hungary) set a new world record in the Light-Heavyweight division of the world weight-lifting championships with a total of 477.5 kilograms. He also set a new record in the jerk of 185 kilograms. RUDOLF PLJUKFELDER (Russia) was second in the event & (Hungary) third. The Russian lifted 467.5 & Toth 450 kilograms. On the second day of the contest it was the turn of the medium-heavyweight competitors. LOUIS MARTIN (Great Britain) retained his title of world champion in this category, but he had a hard fight against the Polish champion PALINSKI who took second place.
