A compilation that we made of the joint Filipino Dirty boxing seminar with David Bertrand a student from Dan Inosanto. This empty hand system is part of Filipino Martial Arts and is also known as Panantukan, Pangamot or Silat. It was great to the teach students the Filipino Martial Arts way of thinking. With other words always think from the perspective of a weapon. On the one hand, always expect a weapon, even if you don’t see one. And on the other hand, if you understand the principles of a weapon based system, you can easlily translate the techniques to different objects, such as knife, pocketstick or even empty hand.
A lot of people think martial arts is an either or. But we believe you should let a system work for you. add skills to your toolbox that work for you. Learn the techniques. Make sure you understand what you’re doing and why you should use it. Only after you understand what you are doing, you can decide if it works for you.
