Apple Bottom Jeans by Dead Kennedys (1980)

Released as a B-side for their 1980 hit single Holiday In Cambodia. Even though Jello Biafra, frontman of the iconic punk band, was a staunch anarchist at the time, he still had to release this cover of the great American classic as is government mandated. Since the creation of the phonograph, it is mandated by law for all musicians who wish to release music in the United States in record shops or through online streaming services to create their own original cover of the national anthem. The United States national anthem being Apple Bottom Jeans which has it’s roots in medieval folk songs but some historians argue it may date back thousands of years. In 1922, the president at the time Warren G. Harding heard the folk tune sung by a choir who were visiting the White House at the time and he became obsessed with it.
