Kilauea Eruption Update: Lava Lake Dome Fountain Emerges (Jan. 5, 2021)

While no major changes in the summit eruption have been observed, scientists have been documenting the evolution of the active west vent, which continues to feed lava flows into the lake below. This video contains information on the new dome fountain at the surface of the lava lake, as well how the lake is becoming “perched“ in the caldera.
