Bikepacking Mt. Hood National Forest: Camping at Trillium Lake
In mid-September, I traveled out to Welches, Oregon with my friends Brett and Heidi to cycle through part of Mt. Hood National Forest and camp overnight at Trillium Lake. We met up with our friend John and set off on mostly gravel roads. John rode with us up to Trillium Lake before heading back to Welches—chasing the sunset–while we set up camp.
After getting everything in order, we rode up to Government Camp for dinner and drinks at Charlie’s Mountain View restaurant; getting caught out by some rain, which led to a very wet ride back to camp.
Overall, it was a fun overnight bikepacking trip that I highly recommend for beginners or anyone who wants to have a nice relaxing couple of days—you can easily extend this to a two-night trip with a little planning.
