Orphan flying-fox is a little cranky: this is Fussbudget

Fussbudget came to after a heat stress event in Kangaroo Valley. She is a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who is around 4 weeks old She is cranky, stressed, emotionally distraught over losing her mum and her world. She cries constantly for attention. She doesn’t improve if she has analgesia so she’s not hurting physically somewhere. She came to bed with me for a few nights because that was the only way any of us got any sleep. Providing she could hear my heart and my breathing, providing she was wrapped tightly and warm, she mostly slept. She needed a little wash on day 2, so Maggie cleaned her up a bit and brushed her and groomed her and cuddled her, but she was still agitated and chuckly-cranky for a few more days. I wouldn’t say she is a relaxed pup, but she is settling into the routine now, and will let us feed her. She’s not that great with a bottle and prefers to squish it all out the sides of her mouth whilst chewing the teat, so her bottle is filled up further so she still gets enough nutrition. She loves nothing better now than to be wrapped and carried around like a little baby. I give her some personal sookie time after I’ve fed the other babies.
