Annual gathering of Water Rats - Variety Artists’ Club - at Magpie Hotel Comedian Bud Flanagan arrives at hotel with other Water Rats, including Wee Georgie Wood. Several shots of the group posing for photographs. Comedian Will Hay, recently recovered from illness but still looking rather frail, is helped to his chair. Flanagan gives Hay an affectionate chuck under the chin. Various shots of the gathering. One of the group makes a speech and a Union Jack flag is unveiled from a plaque on the wall of the hotel. Unfortunately, I cannot make out what the wording is. Cataloguer’s note: any further details regarding others seen here or what the plaque is would be gratefully received! Amendment February 2012: A visitor to the website has provided some more information. The location is the Magpie Hotel in Lower Sunbury, Surrey, where the Grand Order of Water Rats was formed. The plaque reads “This Hotel was the first meeting pla
