Jórsalanám - Norse Crusader Song [HD Remake] The Skaldic Bard
Here’s a remake of my song, Jórsalanám, written and performed by me in Old Norse. It’s the first song I wrote that became quite popular.
The song details the events of the Siege of Jerusalem in 1099 from the perspective of a Scandinavian crusader – people from all over Europe responded to the call of Pope Urban II, with varying degrees of success. Marching through Anatolia and Syria, taking lands as they went, the Crusaders reached Jerusalem and, after a hard won siege, captured the city, instituting the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
You might notice that the intonation is a little different in this remake to the original, and, among other things, that’s because I used to basically ignore the initial stress that should be placed on Old Norse words. I’ve also improved the lyrics in some places.
The name of the song, Jórsalanám, literally means “The Taking of Jerusalem“.
