Forging a German Mushroom - Making a Coat Hook

A piece of 5/16“ round stock is put into an upsetting block and a shapeless “blob“ is formed using the process of upsetting (pushing the metal back onto itself). This “blob’s“ shape is then refined to create a shallow conical head. I then forge it into a coat hook to illustrate a practical application for this head motif.
