AUKUS pact has ‘get-out clause’ for the UK and US

New documents reveal Australia is shouldering a large share of the risks of the AUKUS pact. The US and UK have a ‘get-out clause’ which allows the two countries to pull out of the deal with just one year’s notice if they decide it threatens their own nuclear submarine projects. Australia has agreed to compensate both countries against “liability, loss, costs, damage, or injury” resulting from the program.
