Yair Lapid delivers first speech as Israel’s PM

i24NEWS Senior Correspondent Owen Alterman reports from Jerusalem.  “A big part of the purpose of the speech and from Lapid’s point of view was to give the public a sense of comfort, that the country’s security is in good hands. Lapid does not have a strong security background, obviously, security is a very, very important part of the job of an Israeli prime minister from day one,“ Alterman said. “That is why - on his first day, on Friday - Lapid meet with the head of the Shin Bet security services to get a security briefing from him and go public about it by taking a photo of him at that meeting, to show people he is on top of this and taken care of that element,“ he reported.
