KNIFE MAKING SPANISH NAVAJA

Hello This is the (personal) reproduction of the classic Spanish pocket knife from the 17th and 18th century. Napoleon’s brother banned swords and the Spanish resistance made huge folding knives to defend themselves from the invader, besides firearms. Finally they went to their country. These knives (bandolero style) were the inspiration for the famous bowie knife. This particular blade has a rounded tip, it is designed to penetrate and not break. In the original design, the blade of the knife was wider at the tip, in my case it is the same thickness throughout the blade. Of course they didn’t have 3d printers, they used a bull or deer horn. As I have already said it is a personal reproduction. Today there are still some master knife craftsmen in Spain who make exact and wonderful reproductions of these knives, for instance Luis Vergara google (navaja clasica española siglo 18) Index of operation and materials: 0:15 Handle inside galvanized metal part 2:30 3d printed handle bronze inside part with holes and windows 2:55 Stainless steel mirror windows 3:35 Completing bronze layer with mirrors 3:50 3d printed black wood texture handle 4:33 3d printed bronze pieces for grip 4:50 Handle rivets 6:15 Handle front metal end 11:17 High carbon steel spring 14:14 High carbon steel blade 16:44 Making bevel with files 18:18 Making ratchet 19:25 Sanding 19:47 Joining blade and spring 20:26 Preparing the spring for tempering 21:00 Making support for the lever 21:46 Checking operation before tempering 21:52 Braking system and clearance for the tip 22:11 Making lever to open the spring 26:18 Checking operation before tempering 26:39 Preparing the lever for tempering 27:55 Making hidden rivets 28:10 Tempering blade spring and lever 800ºC to 20ºC 28:26 Checking hardness with file 28:35 Annealing at 200ºC to release stresses for 1 h 28:47 Turning into magnetite -70ºC 28:54 Last check 29:15 Cleaning oil layer on blade and lever, spring with oil layer 29:46 Checking before rivets 30:14 Rivets with separators 32:31 Handle bottom stainless steel end 33:27 Holes for lanyard 35:44 Mirror finish on the blade 2000 and 5000 wet sandpaper 36:22 Making edge 37:28 Blade rivet 38:15 Show time I don’t always use the correct materials, but the ones I have at my fingertips, sorry.
