Russia’s Khmeimim Airbase Plays Key Role in Tackling Extremism in Syria

Russia’s Khmeimim airbase has played an important role in the fight against extremism in Syria since late September last year. Temporarily located at Syria’s Latakia International Airport, the Khmeimim airbase has been equipped with all kinds of support systems since the first airstrike was launched on September 30, 2015. The airbase can provide full maintenance for all of the Russian fighter aircrafts, and also includes a fueling station, a materials warehouse, field depot and accommodation barracks.
