The flag of freedom flies all over Europe. For this victory, we join in offering our thanks for the providence which has guided and sustained us through the dark days of adversity and into light.“

STORYLINE:
The surrender by the Germans that marked the end of the war in Europe, 60 years ago, was signed in Reims on May 7th 1945.
The Nazi capitulation was signed a week after Hitler committed suicide.
German General Alfred Jodl signed the German surrender documents just before 3 a.m. on May the 7th at Allied headquarters in Reims and it was witnessed by US Lieutenant General Walter Bedell Smith, a French and a Soviet general .
The next day- May 8, 1945 - an armistice was signed in Berlin
But World War II raged on in the Pacific until Japan’s surrender on August 15.
