HEMA instructors fighting with the Polish saber - Lee Smith vs. Richard Marsden

This was recorded on June 12 2016 at the end of a seminar that Richard Marsden gave on the use of the Polish saber on foot at the Blood & Iron HEMA school (Historical European Martial Arts) in Burnaby, BC, Canada. Lee Smith (Blood & Iron) and Richard Marsden (Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship) are experienced instructors and the co-founders of their respective martial arts schools. HEMA sparring has little to do with sport fencing. The weapons (shape, weight, balance) and tactics are a lot different. The focus is on martially viable techniques that would disable the opponent in historical combat with sharp blades, while trying to avoid getting hit at the same time or shortly after. Marsden’s book on the Polish saber (highly recommended): Their previous sparring match (July 2015): The artist who made the portrait at the start of the video (she is also a student at Blood & Iron): Music: 1.) “Celtic String Orchestra” by Audio Lion 2.) “Battle Front” by CSS Music The first-person view was recorded with a Gopro Hero3 head camera strapped to Marsden’s fencing mask. ******************************************************************************** My favorite online store for buying swords (worldwide shipping): Channel-related shirts and stuff: Some recommended knife makers on Amazon: Want to help fund future videos?
