J-HOPE of K-pop boy group BTS will start his mandatory military service today (April 8) by joining the recruit training center of ROK Armyβs 36th Infantry Division located in Wonju, Gangwon-do.
This makes J-HOPE the second member of BTS to serve the country as an active-duty, following his bandmate JIN. At the training center, J-HOPE will receive his basic military training for five weeks, and will be deployed to his unit.
J-HOPE said, βItβs just me serving the mandatory duty as an able-bodied man of the country, so I promise to come back safely.β
BTSβ management agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, has previously shared that there will be no ceremony for fans on the day of his entry.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for about two years. Other BTS members besides JIN and J-HOPE would also carry out their duties in accordance with their own personal plans, the agency stated.
