Ketan Mehta’s Mirch Masala is a stunning depiction set in a village in colonial India. A tyrannical subhedar (Naseerunddin Shah) desires a married Sonbai (Smita Patil) who refuses his advances blatantly. He threatens to destroy the village if Sonbai dosen’t submit to his demands.
