Penny Wong ’quietly changed’ Australia’s stance on Israel and its capital

Sky News host Chris Kenny says Foreign Minister Penny Wong “quietly changed” Australia’s stance on Israel and its capital. Under the Morrison government, Australia had followed the lead of America and recognised West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Mr Kenny said Labor “never liked” the former government’s decision, and on Monday, people noticed that it had “quietly deleted” some words from a Department of Foreign Affairs website. “Only after these deletions – those words were deleted from the DFAT website, and that was noticed publicly – only then did Penny Wong come out and confirm the change,” Mr Kenny said. “Was there politics involved in the original decision by the Morrison government? ... Of course, there was, but in foreign policy terms, this was the right thing to do as well. “It was a firm sign of support for Israel.”
